One of the most unique hot dogs I have ever had. Anything with cream cheese and you have me sold! But I never would have thought to put that on a hot dog! Genius. The staff were so nice too and we're walking around to make sure we were enjoying. Can't wait to go back.
My wife and I had been craving some "Biker Jim's" hot dogs lately. Normally we make it a priority to grab some when were at a Rockies Game, but since it's still winter, we decided to get some after church. The only downside, if any, and it's not necessarily related to "Biker Jim's", is that you have to pay for parking to eat there. Most of the time, the street parking is all taken because of all the condos around, so you will have to pay for parking, which is a minimum of $8.00 for the daily fee, if there are not games going on a the time you decided to go downtown. Enough of the bad, now the good! We always make it a point to grab some Biker Jims hot dogs when we go to a Rockies game, and they usually only have two or three different dogs there. So it's always a treat to go straight to the restaurant to get something out of the ordinary. My wife picked the Elk Jalapeno and Cheddar, I got the Jack-A-Lope (Jack Rabbit & Antelope), my daughter chose the Elk and Jalapeno, and my son in-law decided on the Louisiana Red Hots. We also purchased some Fried Mac N Cheese traditional and some smothered green chili fries. Now keep in mind, arrived first thing, when the first opened up at 11:00, so it was and quite, but we have been there before when it has been swamped. The atmosphere was nice, the people working there were also nice and helpful with the menu when we had questions. If you are looking for some different type of hot dogs, give this place a try, you won't regret it. Also, if you're at a Rockies game, this establishment is located on the 3rd level above home base.
I first learned about Biker Jim's when watching old episodes of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. At that time, Biker Jim had a hot dog cart, what what intrigued me (and Anthony Bourdain) were the "over the top" sausages he was slingin' using wild game and creative topping combinations. I am a less is more guy when it comes to burgers and sausages, but I also try not to take apart a recipe as it was meant to be eaten. On my visit for lunch, I called to make sure Biker Jim was still there before my walk from the office. When I arrived, I learned Biker Jim's was now a brick-n-mortar restaurant, which I was happy to see. I live to see small business growth and success! I ordered the Elk Jalapeno Cheddar dog and the Wild Boar dog, both listed in the Fan Favorites section if the menu board on the right. Both are served on hoagie rolls and wrapped in tin foil, so they are easier to hold and eat with minimal mess, since they are loaded with toppings. I liked the flavor of the elk sausage a lot more than the wild boar, which had the color of a pre-cooked brat (for those who know). The Wild Boar is topped with apricots and cranberries, which I did not taste or see, but the Diablo topping wasn't spicy and included bacon, so that topping was a hit with me. Neither sausage was too spicy, and both were good, so don't let the ingredients scare you away if you are concerned with spicy food. The fries were crispy and solid, nothing special, but I wanted to try them. Other sides are available, including baked beans, fried mac-n-cheese, a mixed greens salad, and Charred Tahini Cauliflower. It has a cool, casual vibe, and cooks were a grill in front and small kitchen in back. I'm glad I went, and I would go back to try other menu items if I get a chance to visit again.
The actual dogs are delicious, but the bun is not so great. It's very pricey for a hot dog but it definitely fills you up! - Elk Cheddar Sausage w/ Classic Topping 4/5 The sausage itself is very juicy. It has a nice snap and tastes good. Classic topping wasn't the best. Cream cheese with hotdog? MEH. I should have gotten Diablo. - Rattlesnake & Rabbit w/ Conspiracy Topping 3/5 The rattlesnake and rabbit sausage was not as good as the elk. The whole hotdog was a bit on the sweeter side so I didn't like it too much. Probably due to the topping. The crispy onions were good though. - Fried Mac & Cheese 4/5 It's very crispy on the outside and very hot. It's gooey which makes it really yummy! But it's very very heavy so I wouldn't get it.
Biker Jim's gourmet dogs have become a staple in venues for concerts, games, etc. The hotdogs are so delicious. I ordered the elk jalapeño cheddder with the biker Jim's topping (caramelize onions and cream cheese) and it was delicious. It's very filling. I ordered at Empower Field and it was still just as delicious as the physical location. There's always a line but they work pretty quick so it's not that big of a wait. If you're looking for food to eat, look for biker Jim's to see if it's available at the venue before ordering a generic hotdog. If you're at Empower, you can find it near section 111.
Writing about Biker Jim's presence at Central Park's Sunday Farmers Market... I'm a Chicago native and an admitted hot dog snob. This portable stand made the very best hot dog that I have enjoyed in my time in Denver. Thanks to Carl and Gabriel! Carl steered me towards a traditional hot dog grilled with a tasty bun. Their Sriracha sauce is amazing, and combined with a spicy mustard spread, grilled onions, and their green chile sauce, it was an explosion of taste that I have never experienced before. Simply amazing. I've dabbled with Biker Jim's at the Central Park Farmers Market in the past, but now it will be a regular stop on the Sunday morning tour.
$12+ for a hot dog is outrageous. However, after eating the hot dog once, I would totally pay it again for the experience. We had the ostrich dog, which was a little peppery and gamey- different but not that different from a standard dog. The topping though- you have not lived until you've had cream cheese on your hot dog. Seriously. The fries were thick cut but fairly standard and could have used salt. If you really want fries, ok. But I'll try a different side next time. The sipping pretty is the perfect sour- not too sour, I could have had 4 of these and been satisfied. The perfect amount of sweet. Would order again. Service is counter service, and they were very polite and helpful. They were out of a number of items, but that wasn't their fault. Ambiance is very chill, casual. Perfect for a pre-game. Which is exactly what I will be coming back for.
